Dark eye circles could be hereditary. If your parents had them, most probably you would suffer as well. Or they could be caused by diseases such as nasal congestion (problem with breathing reducing the intake of oxygen levels), chronic ‘atopic eczema’ on skin, aging where skin around the eyes become thinner, swollen eyelids and the likes. If you live a highly stressful life and hardly ever finds time to enjoy a proper meal or get enough rest, surely you will become one of those walking human pandas.

There are ways to remedy the condition before they become ugly. First, drink enough clean water everyday. Do not strain the eyes and rest at least 8 hours on a daily basis. Apply a 1:1 mixture of fresh potato and cucumber juices and soak them on some cotton before placing them on your eyelids for 20 minutes. Wash your eyes with cold water. Choose to eat natural bleachers such as lemons and tomatoes. Herbs that help include turmeric and mint.

Almonds on the other hand are also excellent because they are rich in Vitamin E. Try applying some Vitamin E capsules around the eyes and then wipe them off with a mixture of honey and egg whites to reduce the darkness around the eye. Put hot and cold clothes alternatively under eyes for 10 minutes. Then apply some almond oil on the dark surface before going to bed. Try also acupressure for eyes. Use the index finger and press on the dark eye areas often. Soon, they will disappear.

If it is due to puffiness of the eyes, try raising the head of your bed while sleeping to prevent fluids from accumulating around the eyes. Keep your eyes covered with a cool bag or other types of eye masks or eye facial strips to chill for 10 to 20 minutes everyday. Use Chamomile as it is known to be an anti-inflammatory agent able to minimize puffiness.

If you suffer from dark eye circles, most vision goes with it. So aim to care extra for your eyes by eating fresh fruits and vegetables everyday (up to 8 different servings). Find sources of Vitamin A’s such as carrots and squeeze juices out of them to drink before meals. Learn to combat stress and exercise on a regular basis.
