For many men, drug treatments and self care treatments for hair loss simply do not work. Because of this, many men will consider having costly and lengthy surgery to try to reverse and treat their hair loss. There are three types of surgery available.
1. Hair transplants. These can provide modest changes to how thick your hair is. It involves grafting small areas of hair producing scalp from one area of the head to the other. For example, the surgeon may take some skin from the back of your head, where hair is still plentiful, and graft it onto the front of your scalp, where little or no hair grows. The entire process can take several months to complete, as each surgery session has to be appropriately spaced out to give yourself time to recover. The best results are achieved in men with coarse lightly colored hair. This is probably the most expensive of the 3 surgeries available, and is popular amongst celebrities.
2. Flap surgery: This procedure is good for covering large areas of bald skin rapidly. Pieces of bald scalp are cut out, and replacing it with a section of hair bearing scalp. The hair bearing section of scalp retains its original blood supply, and thus continues to produce hair. The scar is covered by the relocated flap of hair. Although a session of this surgery is expensive, few surgeries are required, and a drastic change in appearance can be achieved in a relatively short period of time.
3. Scalp reduction: Best for covering balding areas at the back of the head, this method involves removing bald sections of the scalp and pulling sections of fertile scalp forward to cover over bald areas of the head. This method is rarely performed on its own, and is extremely effective when combined with one of the other two surgeries available. This method is somewhat less expensive, and can achieve strong results. Multiple sessions are required due to the severity of the surgery, your body will need quite some time to recover, so each session is well spaced out.
Although these surgeries are relatively expensive, time consuming, and drastic, they can do a great deal for improving a mans confidence, and for many men, the spectra of going bald is terrifying indeed. The surgeries themselves are constantly being enhanced and evolved, so they future certainly does look bright when it comes to treating male hair loss.
