Many patients come into a chiropractic office and are concerned pain and don’t need to be worried about selling the patient on chiropractic. If the chiropractor is able to get rid of the pain, chiropractic will sell itself.

Patients should know some things before they start to get adjusted. It is important for them to realize that the pain may not go away right away. This is important to understand especially since the patient probably took a while to develop that pain so it will not go away immediately. It is also important to note that if the pain continues to be ignored it will continue to get worse. The sooner the care is started, the better. After being adjusted, pain will be the first thing that disappears. This does not necessarily mean the patient is healed.

Pain can come from a direct nerve problem or indirectly from a chemistry problem, poor posture or even shoes. Whenever there is an entire extremity or even more than one extremity involved look for more than just a simple nerve impingement. Nerve pressure tends to be unilateral, or one-sided and involved the area that is only the area of the distribution of that particular nerve. The exceptions can include disc problems or total cord involvement. If there is no pattern to the pain, send the patient out for blood work to rule out cancer. When pain switches from side to side it is a chemistry problem, unless it happens after the adjusting has started. If this is the case, then this is a good sign. If the patient is not experiencing flu-like symptoms, and the patient has overall aching, then the doctor can suspect a thyroid deficiency.
